The project aims to develop further and improve an adaptive quadtre e grid based 2D computer model to simulate flood inundation of a range of scal es. The model will take advantages of modern numerical techniques including ad aptive mesh methodologies, local time step approach, diffusion wave concept, e tc. It will result in a robust, efficient and accurate numerical tool for floo d simulation at different scales for a wide range of applications. The project will be carried out under close collaboration with the Flood Risk Management Research Consortium (FRMRC) funded by EPSRC and other government departments a nd agencies. You should hold a PhD or equivalent qualification in the area of computational fluid mechanics or related fields and have a strong background in computer pr ogramming. Familiarity with Fortran and Matlab would be of great value. Experi ence in developing numerical model for flood or shallow flow simulation will b e an advantage.
