I know many students get into good PhD program right after their undergrad studies. These two facts don\'t contradict with each other. The other point I made is also an empirical fact. There are of course counterexamples, but not that many, this is pretty clear if you check the faculty profiles in different schools. Eventually it\'s your boss and your own effort that counts, not the school names. Many people like to argue that if you go to a top school, but don\'t work hard or choose a bad boss, you still won\'t do well.
