发信人: elinor (e^_^), 信区: C.S 标 题: Opportunities for PhD studies or visiting in data mining and machine learning in 发信站: 珞珈山水 (Mon Mar 1 14:07:24 2010), 站内 We are looking for excellent and well motivated undergraduate or postgraduate candidates to do PhD degrees in Computing Sciences, Master of Sciences or visiting scholars (inc. Chinese students or scholars sponsored by China Scholarship Council) at the Data Sciences and Knowledge Discovery Lab (the KDD Lab), Centre for Quantum Computation and Intelligent Systems, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Candidates who are selected will be offered full scholarships covering both tuition fees and living expenses, amounting from $42,000 to $55,000 (without tax) per annum, to work on cutting-edge data mining and machine learning projects sponsored by the Australian Research Council (ARC, equivalent to National Science Foundation) Discovery and Linkage schemes, or industry contract-research grants sponsored by large organizations. Applicants have fantastic opportunities to work in a very collaborative, flexible and dedicated environment, to conduct either high quality theoretical research targeting good publications or high impact development working with large organizations, in the areas of data and text mining, machine learning, behavior informatics, modeling and optimization, agent mining, social network analysis and computing, and complex intelligent systems. Several research directions are seeking for excellent candidates: • Data mining and machine learning foundation • Behavior representation, pattern mining and impact modeling • Multi-source data mining • Agent-based distributed data mining • Hidden group and network analysis • Complex sequence analysis • Text mining, web and social media analysis • Enterprise data mining UTS IT is widely recognized and active in practice-based research and wide engagement with business and communities. The KDD Lab is one of the largest dedicated groups in Australia and the world, including 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors and 2 Lecturers, as well as 6 research fellows and over 20 research master and PhD students. The Lab is well motivated and very active in both fundamental and applied research and development in data mining and machine learning etc. It is currently engaged with several large ARC Discovery and Linkage grants, and several industry projects with government, banking, insurance and capital markets. The Lab has regular and frequent exchanges with global leading groups, researchers, vendors and end users, as well as leads important activities and events in the area.
